Need New Frames? Try Surfin’ at GlassesUSA

When I was 13-years-old, I got my first pair of eyeglasses. They were big, ugly, plastic things that made me look like an extra from The Golden Girls, so it’s no wonder that my junior high nickname was “Ethel Schmerman.” I looked like I was on my way to my weekly Bingo game with my 70-year-old boyfriend.

A couple of years later, I finally got hip and started wearing contact lenses. Of course, this was way back when contact lenses were the size of satellite dishes, so my eyes always seemed to be bright red. (Which isn’t such a bad thing in high school. In fact, it sort of helps you blend in.) Over the years, I’ve done better with my contact lenses, but I still always have a pair of prescription glasses on hand because they just make my eyes feel more rested.

Plus, eyeglass frames have gotten a lot more fashionable, so I really like to wear them out in public. I think they make me look a lot smarter, which is a good thing when you have long blonde hair and are prone to saying things like, “Is mayonnaise a vegetable?”

When the fine people at GlassesUSA offered to send us a free pair of frames, I was really excited because it was time for a new look. At first I wasn’t sure how easy it’d be to pick out frames on the internet without being able to try them on, but since I’d been shopping for frames for a while, I had a good idea of what shape and color I wanted. Here are the ones I picked—cute, no? (And only $33.95 including lenses!)

All I had to do then was just email my current prescription to them, and about a week later I got my new glasses in the mail. I was really happy with the quality of the frames, and they look great on my face. The only drawback was that they came unadjusted, so I had to go over to one of the big eyeglass stores in the mall and ask them to do the adjustment for me. (Which was free.)

My experience with GlassesUSA was a good one, and I was also pleased to learn that they’re a very philanthropic company who donates all of their returned glasses to needy people around the world.
